I had a bit of an incident a few weeks ago where a stone came straight through the windscreen of my old Beetle. I did a bit of looking around and worked out that the cheapest option was to claim on the Insurance.
I phoned Autoglass and told them what car it was and that it is a 1967 model and that they would need to bring a new chrome strip as the original got bent out of shape when I removed the screen at the side of the road.
Over a week later the "technician" arrived and guess what, no chrome strip.
I told him that VW Heritage has them in stock, he went off to sort it.
10 days later I had heard nothing so I tried to ring, (on hold for 20 mins) eventually I got through and they said that they were trying to order the bits from VW but were struggling.
A bit of arguing occurred, mainly around me insisting that VW wouldn't be able to get bits for a 46 year old car and they had to go to VW Heritage.
Another Phone call where they told me that they couldn't deal with VW Heritage but they were working on it.
So today I phoned to cancel the whole thing but they said that they had managed to source the bits but it will take 10 days to get them.
I wish I hadn't bothered and just bought the bits myself, it is only saving me £19 by going through the insurance.
Autoglass have assured me that they are the experts and know what they are doing. Unfortunately though when it comes to classics I don't think they have a clue.
I wouldn't mind but the bit are readily available and I told them exactly what to buy and where to get it. By the time they sort it the car will have been off the road for 6 weeks
