Springs and shocks
« on: 21 July 2013, 21:57 »
Hey people
Just a bit of info required
I'm currently running coil overs on my 97 mk3 golf 2.0 8v but I'm looking to get new shocks and springs.(undecided on standard or after market)
Basically what do I need to go with the shockers?
Is it just bump stops, rubbers boots, spring plates, top mounts and bearings??or are there washers as well

Cheers
Wayne

Springs, dampers, new top mounts would be best, do you have your old suspension as you could use all the nuts n bolts of that.
you will need a compression tool unlike the coilovers that don't need this tool.

May i ask why you're changing from coilover to shocks? just i'm looking into getting coilovers or shocks. (i've always had coilovers)

The coil overs just seem a bit hard and I think there cheap ones and there starting to make a noise
When I bought the car I never got the standard shocks that's why I was asking what I needed
Thanks for the reply

a 30mm drop is a good compromise. only problem is if a spring breaks you will need to buy a whole new set. but I doubt that ever put anyone off lol.

I agree, 30mm seems the best set up. Especially for handling.

I think I would just buy some good second hand ones complete and throw them on. sure you would find some at reasonable cost.
