Fitting oem xenon front lights

Hi all

Probally been asked before! But how much work is there in fitting a set of front genuine xenon lights?
Would like a set with the nice led side lights.
I have a 2010 yr golf gti

Would i need different wiring harnes?

Will i get an error on dash etc?

Basically is it possible for someone with limited skills to do, as dont have any software for removing errors etc.

Any idvice/help much apreciated

I have done this and as the Doc said, it is a lot of work, in fact I think I would trade the car in for one with Xenons rather than do it again. Really happy with the results but not for the faint hearted.

To do a full OEM setup you need to replace the BCM, half the dash has to come out including the knee airbag. You need a new loom to go from the AFS controller to the Autoleveler, which you have to fit, a new loom from the AFS controller to the CAN controller, this is very tricky to get wires soldered on to as it is way back in the dash and a new loom from the AFS controller to each headlight.

Unless you can source a lot of the parts from Ebay etc then it will work out very expensive as well.

Here is the parts list I used



The hardest part was getting to the CAN controller and getting wires connected to the CANH and CANL pins.

Best option is aftermarket lights, but you then run the gauntlet as to their quality.

I made the same mistake as you buying a car with halogens  :cry:

I thought if I bought genuine vw lights it would almost be a plug & play set up, obviously not!!

well I think that idea is knocked on the head big time.

What about the led rear lights? easier?

Typical car has nearly every other extra on it aswell  :grin:

That sounds savagely involving.

To OP - Perhaps you will have to stick with uprated bulbs? Or sell up lol.

Rear LEDs is dead easy, just need access to Vagcom to code out the error codes, 2 min job and looks great  :cool:

Cool, Think will go with rear lights instead then, will I still get fault with genuine rear's?

Where do you buy vagcom from and is it straightforward?
