Yes, I'm liking this "it's not that bad" talk, at the end of the day if you've got to cut the arch off and weld one on anyway, it won't matter how much rust there is, but as VW Bush said if its spread to parts the new panel doesn't replace then the costs will be fabricating new stuff.

if i was you i'd take the rear bumper off, the side skirts off and then see what its like. If its rotten through there. then i'd personally sit down and have a think what i wanted to do with this car. That is alot of rust.

and if you really thinking about keeping it and giving it for a full respray. then do it once and get it done properly. at the end of the day it is an 16v anni.

Tbh patching behind the side skirts is pretty simple if they'll be put back on, doesn;t have to be the neatest of jobs. Same with behind the bumper etc. Wouldn't put me off too much. I'd say the arch repair panels will likely cover all the affected area anyway, including the end of the sill.

I know it looks bad, but im not going to find another mk3 without rusty arches under the trims, nevermind a 16v anni, im treated it as being part and parcel of being a mk3 owner, and like murraymint, once its done, it shouldn't need doing again.
