You know it's bad when you can see the rust coming even when there is 3 inches of plastic arch spat hiding it!!!

And if you think that's bad...

What's a realistic cost for me to get these cut out and those £30 arch repair panels welded in and sprayed?

Where murraymint when you need him? Oh he's bought that Bora!

Properly, there is at least grand of work there if your paying out your own pocket with a couple of favours thrown in
That would need most of each side sprayed in to blend the paint, also how far that needs to be cut back may mean you need a bigger panel to cut out what you need.
Your inner wings will need some work, custom fab let in and proofed.
The sills look a bit crispy too poking out, best get the sill covers off to see if its even worth saving

Mine was worse a few Mk3's ago quoted £900 from a friend to do it, went out and bought a new Mk3 for £450 with sh!t loads less rot and stripped the good bits off for spares.
Question is does the anni tag make it worth it......

Thom will be able to give you good guidance

I would think the end of the sill is bound to be a bit gone. with the water getting thrown up from wheel and in through holes in the arches. when it comes to welding its never only what you can first see. was there actually anything holding the n/s plastic on?

You called? Dont worry I still check in, I Haven't truly embraced the mk4 section yet lol. Those arches look bad! I think I still have a pass side arch repair pannel (ordered the wrong side for mine) if you want it?

What's your plan now? Keep the car and do the rust repair? Cut your losses and sell up? (Mines still for sale ) the only reason I did mine was because I could do 99% of the work myself. But other then paint, it's not that hard to do, it's just cutting and welding, if you f**k it up, cut it out and try again, then the filler work is just patience.

Haha, murraymint nice to hear from you! I'm keeping the car no matter what, seeing your build thread is inspiring and once it done its done.

I prob wouldn't bother if it wasn't an anni 16v, apparently it's had new sills, iv got a receipt in the history, and by the looks of its had a new front arch and I've got a new one in the garage for the other side. Once the arches have been cut out and welded I've just got some rust under the back window I'm cutting out and then a few scabs here and there then it will get a respray.

I've seen worse.....my OSR outer arch is virtually non existant under the arch trim....sprayed on some rust inhibiting paint to stop it spreading and stuck the trims back on. Will sort it properly eventually, when I've learnt to weld!

Also I wouldn't say its gonna cost a grand. Shop around, could get it done for about £600 I bet.
