I would go to a broker, but I have a trade in.
Would rather go straight to a dealer and get a descent price!

I also have a trade in.  Once the broker hands you to the dealer everything proceeds as normal, at which point you tell them you have a trade in and they value it over the phone (so be honest on the severity of scrapes or alloy damage).  If they are local to you then you can get an in person valuation.

You're under no obligation to take any deal so why not go the broker route while continuing your search on your own?  Win win.

Drive the deal were very easy to deal with, one phone call to confirm the spec I wanted, paid 1k deposit then straight in touch with vw dealer, no more contact with DTD, only down side for me is the dealer they found for me is in Kent and I'm in Cornwall, but worth it for the £3350 discount.

It's quite simple the new head of UK sales for VW has come from Renault. He's a target driven man i.e. sell cars hit targets or you dealers can forget all the bonuses, now it's always been like that but his targets mean that on average a dealer has to sell almost 50% more cars per month to hit the bonus than they did this time last year. One month earlier in the year I know of one dealer who to hit his quarterly bonus had to pre register 35 cars and its not a large dealership!

This overtime will undoubted assist VW in becoming the largest car seller in the world as is there aim  by i think 2018. But in the long term unless you can secure a significant discount on purchase your chasing a looser with regards residual value, something we have all probably considered good  when buying from VAG.

I can ask my dealer if you want. I got a 12.5% discount. Tell me the spec you want?

That would be brilliant mate

No worries, been quoted 20-22 weeks. I tried to PM you but no joy. I think you don't have enough posts to receive personal messages. Maybe you need to post 10 times?

Residuals for GTI/GTD will remain high for as long as they limit allocation and demand exceeds supply. VW must be very confident right now on GTI/GTD residuals, considering the GFV they are committing themselves to. Standard Golf residuals (based on GFV) seem to be weakening a bit though, with a TDI GT/SE typically at 47% GFV and 45% for the 1.4TSI ACT. They always used to be about 50% - still well above Alfa, Ford, Vauxhall, Renault etc and comparable with most BMW 1 series.

Going the broker route is fine, you’ll get a great discount on the new car – just be prepared to get a low p/x price which partially cuts into your headline discount. The dealer is there to make money, and they’re not going to give you an amazing deal on the new one as well as top tier Parkers valuation on your p/x – especially if it’s not a VAG car. Expect the stated discount and WBAC website price for an accurate description of the car’s condition and you’ll be about right. WBAC valuation on my Scirocco is around £1000 less than the dealership gave me in p/x. With that in mind, if your local dealership can give you a good p/x price and £2000-2500 off the new car then the “cost to change” is probably the same as the broker route. Discounts seen here seem far more willingly given on cars with a good few grand’s worth of optional equipment, I expect that profit margin is much higher on the options list than the standard car. If you’re talking residuals, options are pretty much dead money at trade in – For leather, Nav, Sunroof, PP you’ll probably see about 20-30% back of your money spent, but almost nowt for anything else (compared a few specs at my dealership and made note of the resultant GFVs).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

If they just won't budge you gotta go to a broker.

I used carbuzz though I always struggle to find their website as they seem to share their name with a review site or something...  can't find it at all right now, so perhaps they've died off.

Anyway, the broker will put you in touch with a dealer who will give you a discount.  You take it or leave it.  From that moment on you are identical in all respects to a customer who didn't use the broker.  I don't think using this route is anything to worry about at all.

Stuart, you could try Arnold Clark on crow rd in Glasgow. They helped me
Will give them a phone, worth a shot!

I sent VW Germany an email saying i was going to order a GTD but wasn't happy with the supply times, here's the reply.

Thank you for your e-mail addressed to our management board and for sharing your thoughts with us.

We are pleased to learn that you are interested in the purchase of a Volkswagen Golf MKVII GTD.

We kindly inform you that, due to the success of the new model range, there has been a considerable increase in the demand for our vehicles. As it is not our policy to accelerate production at the expense of care and quality of our products, an increase of delivery times could not be completely avoided.

Please be assured, however, that we do our best to comply with the wishes of our customers as quickly as possible.

Do not hesitate to contact our local representative directly in case you have further questions.

Yours sincerely,
