So my dealer has got back to me regarding the 3.5 weeks my car has now been in transit to Emden. After speaking to VW UK apparently my car was one of a batch in transit that were hit by a HAILSTORM and had to be sent back to the factory to go through the QA process again and repaired if necessary.  You really couldn't make this stuff up!
Rejected - MK7 Golf GTI 5dr - Pure White - Hailstorm damaged (Ordered 24th April)
Rebuild on order - MK7 Golf GTI 5dr - Pure White - this time with Performance Pack - Confirmed BW40 (no hailstorms this time please!)

If that is true that is some terrible luck. Make sure you inspect the car 100% thoroughly when you collect it

Heard about that on the news last week...

http://www.dw.de/hailstorm-damages-a-nuisance-for-volkswagen/a-17010009
The news article suggests customers of damaged/repaired cars are being offered a discount or option of rejoining the waiting list for a new car. Wonder what my chances are of squeezing out some more discount.  Hmmm

The biggest fairy story we've heard to date is actually true. I think it stinks that Neil had to push to get the truth, were they ever going to admit his car was maybe repaired when he finally got it, if he didn't start asking why plant to port transit was taking so long. Would they have ever offered him a discount on his car on the assumption the damage wasn't bad and they repaired it to the point that he wouldn't notice?

I wonder whether delays to BW33 are due to the remedial work/inspections or possibly rushing through manufacture of replacement vehicles for those which are worst affected? If there are a finite number of cameras, if they don't strip those cars down that may have had one fitted to reuse the components, you might see people with confirmed orders getting refused cameras because in effect they have used 2 for 1 order (the hail-wrecked car and it's replacement).

Yep I've no doubt I'd be left waiting and wondering where my car is if I hadn't chased it. Worrying thing is the dealer seems to have no idea how long the delay will be. With 28000 damaged vehicles being repaired by a 3rd party it could be some time

If you go to www.marinetraffic.com and search for Vessel 'AUTOPRESTIGE' you can see it currently waiting in the port at Emden. (I may have become slightly obsessed)
