Engine mount question!!
« on: 03 June 2013, 20:09 »
2002 1.8 20v t gti AUM. my question is...... ive got a knock that happens if u brake quite heavily an when u pull away fast from the front end sounds like it coming from the bottom of the turbo area but its hard to put a defo position on it . everything is new on the front end: all wishbone bushes, arb bushes, suspension, top mounts, inner+outer tie rods, dog bone, someone mentioned about the engine mounts an ive just had a quick look around an found that the one under the air box moves alot, if you put a lever bar in it you can pry it back an forth nearly from one side to the other, is this normally if so what else could this noise be?!!!! HELP its driving me up the wall!!!!

How long ago did you go the arm bushes and what sort of mileage is the car on?

Then engine mounts sound knackered

Cheap fix! Get a tube of tiger seal and fill the engines units with the stuff
Should stiffen them up and hopefully get rid of the noise

bit of a bodge but could be worth doing just to see if it is the mount then replace it if so

If I'm honest it's not a bodge whatsoever if done properly.

Tigerseal used to be the big things for tracks toys before polyurethane became so easily available. You would very often see engine mounts filled to the brims with the stuff.
It's cheap yet very effective.

If you wanted you can buy polyurethane mix in bottle and do the same thing but you might find it abit too harsh and it's a bit more of a effort as you have To mix it etc.

To do it properly you will have to remove the mount but its down to your preference really.
Good luck and keep it updated
