1.8T owners...
« on: 24 April 2013, 21:59 »
i've seen bent rods come out of 1.8T engines a few times over the years, but this is the most impressive/expensive i've witnessed so i thought i'd share the pictures.

the car was a standard Leon Cupra R that rolled in to the workshop with the complaint "loud ticking from front end"

Wow, well and truly fu*ked! Surely not standard? How were the cylinder walls?

i'm told it isn't modified, i haven't tried reading the ecu to see if it's mapped and obviously can't put it on the dyno at the moment

there were no signs of detonation or debris on the piston crown, some bearing damage but the crank survived. the cylinder wall would go again since it knocked the oil spray jet clean off before it could interfere with the rings.. the problem with that is the thread didn't pull out of the spray jet, it pulled a big chunk of the inside of the block with it  the crank sensor pickup ring isn't looking too clever either thanks to the groove it shaved off the bottom of the piston skirt that you can see in the pictures

Rods made out of old coke cans. It's impressive it was still drive able!
How much do you charge to fit forged rods?
03 210 Seat LCR. Badger5 V2.2TIP, Fordge 007p, Wellycooler, Quaife ATB LSD, Nuespeed ARB's, KW Clubsports, 330mm discs, 3" turbo back de cat and still on the standard map!

Did not think a car with a rod that bent would still run
