Ignoring the fact you can't spell 'surprised' - why wouldn't they be allowed to use an older car?  No different to controls on modern cars and a LOT cheaper for the instructor as he won't have any depreciation and technically you could service it yourself if you wanted, too.

I actually really like the idea of learning in something old like this and seeing it gave me a big grin - someone thinking outside the box.

Apologies for the spelling mistake, i guess i more or less assumed that there may be some issues regarding insurance for professional instructors using quite old cars.
