Hmm maybe I should turn mine down a bit more.... 2.5kg off isn't as much as most people have taken off it seems. The livelier the better

I've machined mine to 7kg for now. Weighed in at 9.5 to start with. Will be a few weeks before I fit it anyway but I don't want to be underwhelmed with the difference when it goes on...

Same weight as mine, was a fair difference for me, although I was coming from a dual mass mk4 item.

However many mentioned the lighter pedal feel when swapping out a dual mass, but nobody mentioned any difference for Liveliness, which there certainly was in my case, so I guess it must have made a significant change.

I also noticed that coming off throttle, the engine brake was a lot stronger, less rotational force I guess. This could be classed as a downside.

Having now seen pics of my original and spike's turned down one (its in "what have you done to your Golf today") where the metal is taken away from should have no effect on the clutch bearing area.
I would suggest that a flywheel failure is more likely to do with imbalance or a faulty fitted clutch.

Received my new lightened and balanced flywheel today,  it weighs exactly 7kg. Now to raise some cash for a Sachs  Vr6 clutch kit and  fitting...

If anyone is going to turn down their own flywheel, it's best to make sure it's balanced, as per hotgolf or you could knock something out on your bottom end. Possibly.
