Thanks guys ill buy that from local motor factors tomorrow .

One thing. My local breakers yard may still have a golf in , if i was to get a coil from it would it matter if it was a lesser size engine cc ? Im presuming it doesn't matter ? Or are they a different design ?

Might make a difference. Dont waste your money on a coil pack as they can pack up. Replace the relay and drive around if problem is still there thenlet us know.

Don't buy from local motor factors. Try vw for relay, it'll be genuine part, plus they ain't expensive at all.

Getting a genuine relay would be a problem due to not having another car to get there as just take my E30 of the road , and it being about 25-30 miles away with no mot on the golf would not be good .

How about a second hand relay and see if it works an if so get my but up to vw asap !

Will definitely be a relay or the crank sensor. It doesn't matter if it looks new, I had one fail in 3 days...the cheap ones are absolute crap.

update .

i have had to order a relay from Volksbits due to not being able to get one local or from Vw .

Also ....

Had to take the car back to garage for tyres and an mot restest ,
On cold start it was a little hesitant between 1k and 2k revs soon cleared after a minute ,drove to garage fine .
But on the way home again the probleem started after aprox 15 mins of driving (very close to home) at the turning to go into my road i stoped and so did the fecking engine !

I wiggled the relay no joy took out tpped it no joy , under bonnet wiggled ht leads and earth strap to coil pack , nothing . it wouldnt start for a few minutes the boom running near eenough sweet as .

Got it on my driveway and it sounded like a misfire , so i removed each ht lead as per norm and as it should be pulled each one out and it got worse .so no prolemo there. after say 5 mins of trying to identify the fault the engine decided to run fine again sweet as fook . :/

Just as a precaution i cleaned out the oil breather hoses , neither were block but a little gunky ,made no change for the issue .

Im now letting the engine cool down to see what it is like on a cold start again .

i Believe there maybe more to this than the relay by the sounds of things but due to the excessive clicking im replacing to erradicate that problem all together

As allways many thanks in advance

contacted the previous owner , it waas replace the day i got the car for a cheap one due to it cutting out but no real hesitation , was cuttin out on idle too .
At the moment cutting out on idle on the driveway is no issue at all seems to be fine .

Hi bud,had similar problems with my 8v.Cutting out randomly after about 15 minutes driving.Put new fuel pump relay in and so far been ok.Fuel pump relay aint supposed to click and when they get warm the contacts inside can seperate, causing the cut out/stalling.I also changed ECU relay for good measure.
