Just had to remove this...but what is it??

Just had to connect rear washers back up as connection had come off...had to remove this...but what is it?? It looks something should connect to it...but can't find anything...





Any ideas?? Car is a 1.8 20v GTi

It can throw up a fault code if you dont fit a resister and vent the fuel emissions out through the arch

Is that what the pipey thing is in the bottom? Just a breather? Nothing connects to it??

What's the benefit in removing?? Is there point? I started it without it, just to see what happened...it's sounds lumpy as hell...really rough...

It's all back in now lol

Its mainly removed to remove all the vac hoses to stop leaks.

In a nutshell, the vapor canister was designed to "catch" le fuel vapors when the engine is turned off and just sitting there, so the next time the car starts it sucks them back into the engine and uses them.
it is an "emissions" thing, you don't really need it to run, it's just there to save the environment.

prob would have ran lumpy if you didnt block the vacuum
