There's a separate single wire for the obd port to read the engine, its obviously not plugged in

From memory it's a grey wire with a brown male plug on the engine loom side and the same colour wire with a female plug on the car side

When I did my vr6 swap into the Anni I couldn't get the Engine ECU to talk to the VAG 5052 computer, however, ABS, Airbag scanned fine, I traced it back to that single wire I mentioned not being plugged in, found the wire on the engine loom and car loom side, plugged it in, it worked fine and I was then able to erase the learnt values on my ECU and get the car started

It was a brown plug with a white/grey wire from memory

It does not plug into the fuse box it's one of those single wires that plug into another single wire

I hope this makes sense

i had this problem and it was the immobiliser box not permitting me to read the engine ecu, i swapped the immobilser and it worked straight away..

rubjohny helped me with it, and he told me that the immob was preventing it, so i bought a second hand one (with the key chips) and swapped it over, then paired them with vagcom and then it worked fine..

I found a brown female plug coming in from the engine bay and it was plugged into a brown male connector which looked like it went back to the brown plug in the pic .

Reading abit more on the net I think my problem is the high voltage across pins 4 &7 . I haven't got a clue on how to establish what maybe causing this.

I had an aftermarket stereo and there was a black cable stuffed in with what I think is the ign live, as in the pic below.
