With all the electronics on modern cars and the fact that they can't just be fixed by changing a 20p resistor that has failed so you have to spend £300 on a new unit then I'd not really want to run one without some kind of warranty, even a third party one.
If the £300 odd for a warranty includes full breakdown cover with home start etc it isn't that bad value. And if you sell the car privately it goes with it and would aid a sale no end.

It's about time VW supplied 5 year warranties from new as other manufacturers do.

If VW are so proud of there workmanship then they really shud take a leaf out of vauxhalls books and supply a lifetime warranty or 10yrs which ever comes first....In my opinion.

I didn't extend the warranty on the Golf which was 3 years old in January. I may well do with my current Passat tho'.

Maybe I had been lucky with my previous Passat. 5 additional years with no warranty and the only failure I had was a power steering union that popped off. That cost £700 to fix as I had to drive the car with no PAS fluid in it, so knackered the pump. Not too bad all things considered. As said before, with all their electronics, I can't see the modern cars being as reliable as the old B5/5.5 Passat in old age.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Is this the same as the service plan with the monthly direct debit payments?

The service plan is where you get 1 service every 12 months for 3 years, it's extended warranties they're talking about here.

Intersting that So its going to cost £652 for two years provided the 5th year runs at the same cost as the 4th year. Thats a little steep.

Strange.

I didn't get asked if I wanted to extend my warranty.

Ran out 29 December so presume its too late?

Thank you for posting this comparison table.
I only got the letter to go get a quote off the website but the table is very useful to compare.
