Well worth IMO
I took the £100 excess option.
My recent wheel bearing replacement has already made it worth my while.
The VW breakdown cover is excellent and cheaper than buying it separately.

If you haven't had anything in the post you probably ticked the 'no offers by post' box when you filled in the original paperwork. I had the same problem but a quick phone call sorted it out.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

I never got asked either. Having said that, I have the mechanical breakdown warranty on my AA cover. It's about £70 a year and covers you up to £500 worth of repairs if the fault causes a break down requiring the AA to come out. We had this cover on the wife's previous Saab and they paid up straight away when the alternator went on it. I know the RAC also do this cover now as they quoted like for like on renewal last year.
Touch wood though, 3 years and 8 months old and nothing's needed replacing yet.
