It would appear to be the same as we have.  I assume you made a really low offer to get it for £20?

Even an 8v gti will run out of puff around 5500rpm, check out my old engine.
Really, thats a bit of a bummer. But like i said, possibility my car has been chipped, surely if it had been chipped then it would make it last a little big longer passed 5500?

Somebody fancy telling me what a standard 8v gti is supposed to rev to?

I think 6200 is the limiter for the standard 8v engine. Chipped you might find another 100 or 200 rpm in the powerband but it won't be a massive difference. It's the nature of 8v.

Oh really, strange that my car revs 1300rpm above that then :/ id think if it was a chip made specifically for my car it would only add that extra 100-200 you say. Otherwise all the rest its adding is just pointless :/
Eitherways i knew i wouldn't get big performance out of my 8v, just bought it because didn't fancy having to swap insurance companies to UK insurance just to get a 16v or VR.

Edit: To be fair not like revving to 7500rpm matters at the moment as it only revs to 5000rpm since a garage fitted a new cambelt and "distributor amplifier" yesterday  :undecided:

if you we're thinking of getting a 16v you should check with your insurer and you may be surprised.. my insurance was the same 8v to 16

offer? I wanted to trade my unused 8v chip for a 16v one but he doesn't accept returns so he offered me one for £20

I wish! Haha, im only 19. No one will touch me on a 16v until im 21, and the few that would want some serious ££.
I'm better off sticking to this car, get a few more years ncb, then when i hit 21, stick a 16v engine in there.

That wasn't a bad turn out then.  Yeah auction listing always says the buy it now price as well as rhe option to make an offer.  IIRC i got mine for £35 or something around that mark due to making an offer instead.

Can't you just sell the 8v one on for peanuts now?
