intake manifold / fmic Q
« on: 28 January 2013, 13:06 »
hello fellas :)

i am wanting to get a front mount intercooler but i dont like the pipe going over the MAF if you know what i mean but i have seen some engine bays and the charge pipe comes round on the left then down and the boost pipe from the cooler to the intake manifold is on the right and the manifold is the other way round to my auq.
best to decibe is on here :

http://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=173902

now can i just swop the manifold over and the charge pipe and bing badda boom add some silicone pipes and the cooler and pow i have a neat engine bay :D ??

The thing is the k04 turbo sits a little further up from where the k03/s variants would.

I have done this on mine, decided it was easier
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

I went with the S3 inlet and the K04 charge pipe, do you mean in terms of what I/C pipes?

well for a start did you have to modify the charge pipe to be able to fit how did you connect to the turbo
and did you have to modify the fuel rail and extend any wiring??

The parts you're thinking of can be found on APY/APX/AMK/BAM engines. there may be others but those are the ones that spring to mind quickly.

You'll have to extend the throttle body wiring to meet, and sort out re-plumbing your servo hard line as well.

The ko4 charge pipe also won't mate up to the ko3 properly, as the ko4 sits much further towards the passengers side. Not sure how to overcome this as I've not done one before.

All the above is assuming you have an AUM/AUQ as well, as it won't work for an AGU.

For the hasstle, I'd just have a pipe going over the engine bay.

I have seen a few clever installs that run the ic poor from the turbo under the TIP.
Think this uses x2 90' silicone bends. But I reckon this would greatly reduce flow.

I read in a tuning guide that every bend in an intercoolers Tracy reduces flow by X%. A 90' being the worst.
