iirc  you don't need documented proof  if your increseing the capacity but do i reduceing it

eg you can go from a  1.8 20VT  to a 2.0 8v  without proof,   but going from a 2.0 8v to a 20vt would require proof of capacity reduction    as the dvla are stupid like that

Just because if you go smaller, generally (especially before 2001 and below 1549cc) it's cheaper tax. So they'll make it harder for you.

when i spoke to them on the phone, they require proof no matter which way you go

no engineers report needed

but proof of engine needed as i have said earlier.. must be on a letterhead from a garage

if you have fitted engine yourself, you have to get a garage to write the information i said earlier on a letterhead

in the past for fitting smaller engines all i used to do was send a copy of the recipt for the engine or the car the engine came out of.

tho for a long time now i've never sent any proof and not had any issues but thats the DVLA for you  every person there you ask will give you a diffrent answer
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

You have to send log off to DVLA with proof of change (by a Garage - receipt of work done to complete the job) if you don't have this you have to get a document from a  garage verifying what engine is in their

this needs to include engine Identity number and engine capacity, also if its a derv or petrol

i now this coz we do this with all the cars we convert

Out of interest if one was to fit a 1.9tdi lump into 2.8 v6 4motion, how would things lie then?

Me and a lad was arguing at work he fitted a 2litre engine in his 1.2 shell and reckons he's told dvla but yet it still cheap tax of 66 pound and not the 139  fir six months I have to pay on my golf of the same year. I reckon he's not told them as he would b in my tax group wouldn't he

Age of it?

If before 2001 then yes tax should be higher. If after most probably should be higher.
