Log book change for engine conversion
« on: 20 January 2013, 20:11 »
My mk3 golf estate has a 2.0 16v gti engine in when i brought it but the log book says 1800. How can i get this altered to reflect this.

There would be no tax differece either between a 1800 and 2000 of that age..?

Any ideas thanks

Tax should be the same but insurance will go up accordingly.  When you receive the V5 it'll have the rrelevant boxes to fill out in regards of an engine swap.

You have to send log off to DVLA with proof of change (by a Garage - receipt of work done to complete the job) if you don't have this you have to get a document from a  garage verifying what engine is in their

this needs to include engine Identity number and engine capacity, also if its a derv or petrol

i now this coz we do this with all the cars we convert

Ok so i need to go to a garage who will confirm thats its a 2.0ltr 16v petrol and not a 1800 petrol on there letter head. thats not going to be easy lol

Yes mate

make sure it includes info iv mentioned

you can fill in the engine ID yourself on the slip you send back, and i don't mean engine type code for example ABF..  you want the numerical code for this

it's the best route is this your taking, insurance void if you get caught out with the wrong engine installed

iirc  you don't need documented proof  if your increseing the capacity but do i reduceing it

eg you can go from a  1.8 20VT  to a 2.0 8v  without proof,   but going from a 2.0 8v to a 20vt would require proof of capacity reduction    as the dvla are stupid like that
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
