I need to get some practice with welding the 3mm to the thinner floorplan as too not burn through it!
I'm sure I will get there......eventually!

Yeah yours are looking very tidy I would be happy!

I hear it's all about practice, DH's had a lot.

The key is quite high power and spend as much time as possible on the 3mm and as little as possible on the car steel and move FAST when you're on it.

Where there was some space to fill I also ran a really quick bead down the car steel where the join would be, to give me a bit more metal to hook the main bead on - stops you blowing holes.  Don't be afraid to pause regularly too to let things cool a little.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Ok so I a little update over the last few days

The rear beam bushes arrived so me any Ryan set about removing the ld bushes by drilling the rubber and then forcing it out with a nice sized screwdriver and a hammer

We then cleaned up the surfaces using a drill and flapper wheel

Before -

During -

After

We then had a bit of worry that the bushes wouldn't fit due to the hole being 69mm and the bush being 72.5mm but after some research it turned out they just need forcing in so they compress

We then did some work on the front cage feet and got the drivers side plates made

Then a day was spent fetching Ryan's new golf "Sargent NEJ"
The first fuel up!

Today we got the rear beam polys fitted.

We then set about doing some more work on the cage feet!

The idea for the d/s ....

The P/S getting made up....

But we ran out of cutting discs and I don't think I could really get any more out of this one!!

Plans are to finish making up the feet and get them all welded in and that will be the cage finished
Then gonna flush out the tank and replace the line
And get it all bolted back up.

The seat rails and side plates for the cage feet made up

And also the bottom mount - side mount plates made up...

Onto another day!
I got these made to the spec of the drawings a made on a earlier page.

They are bush sleeves for the front wishbone bush to take it down from 45mm to 30mm

Ok so i dont know if anyone is interested in bikes but i am and this is my thread so tough luck if not

I went on the bike on the weekend and i started getting a rather loud tapping noise so i decided i needed to investigate.I went to check the tappets and found that one of the retaining nuts had decided to come loose and remove itself falling down towards the crank  :undecided:

soooooooo

we went from this....

to this...

And i managed to get to this point in just over a hour which i was quite impressed with

(Dont worry there is some engine pics now )

Started stripping

The dreaded missing nut

Cam chain and cams all looked in good condition

Spent ages (over 1.5 hours) trying to find the nut and was starting to get very confused until...

.... voilà!

i found it wedged inbetween the cam chain guide and the casing

A hour with a magnet and some welding rod and it was out!

Had a very lucky escape as the only damage was the tappet adjusting screw was bent so i ordered a new one at £8!!    but i guess its better then a engine rebuild

got the engine back in just awaiting parts

Ok so back on topic with "Project track car"!

I placed the seat bars in their rough locations and got the seat in so i could sit and try get the seat where i wanted it

After alot of messing with the seat (in-out-in-out etc) i managed to get the front rail exactly where i wanted it so i tack it in place

While i had the welder on i decided to tack the side plates together on the passenger cage foot and start welding it but i ran out of gas

Another pic of what the drvers side will look like

After more messing with the seat and rails i managed to get the rear rail where i wanted it...
I then tacked it and proceeded to make it up and drill it.
i then mounted the seat with the bolts and got it in my driving position and this is the result

Just enough Clearance on the cage

I then had a look at the door bars and measured it up making sure it wasn't higher then half of the full aperture of the door.
i then cut it to length and this is what it should look like

I then cleaned up around the seat rail plates ready for welding...

And got the majority of them welded

I then got the side plates of the feet in position and tacked them all in place

passenger side

All ready for welding up

And thats it for now, i will try and keep it up to date from now on
