I have heard of jnl!

What would you suggest I get them to do?
Also I have no idea on the cost of head work! Haha

If I get the guides replaced will I also need to get the valves replaced?

Don't really want to buy new valves as the plan is to uprate the valves and stuff next winter!

Could do with it dipping and cleaning up properly though!

Also unsure wether to do any porting or not   :undecided:

Original plan was to just get it rebuilt standard and get it all running and mapped and then look at some headwork next winter!

Wouldn't have thought unless your putting super tech valves in now, there's not much point doing anything much to it yet.

If you're staying standard get it tidied up by a local machine shop - skim, guides and dip-clean shouldn't be too much.  You can put your existing valves back in, no worries.  They should be fine to lap your valves back in for you as well - might be worthwhile getting it done.... depends on costs.

Unfortunately head work ain't cheap.... but it's probably the area where you're mostly likely to see big gains, after the rotary silencer.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

That's what I wanted to hear!
So I'll get the guides done and get it all cleaned up etc
Found a local machine shop who do headwork but can't for the life of me find anywhere to buy the guides???
Only ones I can find are updated super tech guides but can't find oem ones.
Vw don't sell then  :undecided:

You should have the guides as part of the head gasket kit - that's certainly how they're normally flogged.

Naaa no guides only seals!
Apparently VW  don't make them and not many other people do either!

I've ordered some anyway and also ordered a few other bits and bobs so will update when they arrive!

Ok so a quick update!

New compressor came! Which meant I could remove the seized crankshaft bolt using the BIG 1" drive impact gun!

This then allowed me to strip the rest of the lower block.
Including removing the oil pump and chain, belt side crankshaft oil seal plate, clutch side oil seal flange, big end bearing caps, main bearing caps

I then proceeded to remove the piston oil squirters and pistons

And then decided to compare the old piston and rod setup to the new one!

I then started cleaning the block off all the thick crap and flaking bits of paint using a scraper and also started cleaning it with degreaser/acid and a stiff brush but haven't got any photos!

Also a few more bits arrived!

New revised piston for the 007p

New braided lines and fluid

And also a low range torque wrench and some redline assembly lube

That's it for now!
Just ordered some paint for the block etc and some rear discs and pads!

Ok managed to pull the engine out and give it a good clean, scrub and have masked it up ready for painting!

Also a few more bits have arrived!
Rear 256mm callipers and carriers (haven't got any photos yet) they look in good condition but I think I may refurb them before fitting!

Also new 256mm rear discs and pads!

New febi oil pump!

And also the first parts for my oil cooler set up which include a 16 row cooler and a mocal sandwich plate with integrated 80deg thermostat.

Got a little bit done today!

Finished cleaning up and masking the lower block and started to paint it.

Black etch primer (just what I had in the garage) and then started spraying it with the xht red.

A couple of coats later, each dried using the propane heater and it was done!

It's far from perfect as it could have done with being shot blasted! But it's not a
Show car so ok not bothered haha.

Also moved onto cleaning up the Cupra r rear calipers and carriers.
A lick of etch primer and xht paint.

I was gonna refurb the calipers with new seals and pistons but they are nice and free so I'm gonna concentrate on some other things first and look Into later in the year.

Need to buy some main bearing shells and bolts and then I can look at building up the lower block and fitting the rings!

Any advice or comments welcome!
