Just completed a pre-MOT check. Drop link bushes split. Another job to do!
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Replaced the original orange dipstick with the new yellow version after one of the small tabs broke.

I note the orange version has problems with becoming brittle.

Took mine for a spin as it had sat for a week while I’d been on holiday, spent 30 minutes finding out where a rattling noise was coming from

Anyone know if an auxiliary belt problem sounds like an old fan belt slipping? Like a fast whirring, screeching that goes up and down with engine load/speed?

I waiting for a diagnostic tomorrow morning.

Could be,
Ac pulley I've heard of seezin.
Could be a number of things though.
It's not coming  from the pcv valve is it?

When I opened the bonnet it seems like the noise from the pulley side of the engine, also on the way to the garage this morning I can add lumpy idle with the rev counter unsteady at the traffic lights. Also, it runs for a fraction when you turn off the engine.

Hopefully the specialist can identify belt, pulley, or PVC this morning.

If its happened for a while check you don't also have an oil leak from between the gearbox and engine under the car. When the pcv valve goes and the pressure rises it trys to vent at the weakest point. Sadly this often ends up being the rear main  seal and it fails.

It happened suddenly on a journey this week, didn't get to work, turned back and went home. Of course it could have been failing for months without making a noise?

Hopefully there is no main seal failure, but thank you for letting me know. I will call the garage and ask them to check when they fit it on Monday.
