i've done enough trackdays, Nurburgring etc to know that I'll get more enjoyment from a torquey motor than one that has 300bhp and will do 150+mph.
Mate, you sound like a former petrol head that's just given up, laid down, and died.
I can't possibly see how a 300lbft soot chucker could ever give you more enjoyment than a petrol turbo car.
No offense to the tdi tuners out there, but a stage 1 1.8T with 210bhp / 250lbft (nothing more than a £250 map) is going to be a far faster car, and far more enjoyable to drive than a mapped PD150 with 190bhp and 300lbft.
It's not all about peak figures, it's about delivery too. a 300lbft tdi has it all in one big lump then it jsut dies straight off again, no revs, no nice sound, just a quick poke then you're changing gear again.
Diesel is for agriculture and heavy haulage, petrol is for enjoyment.
Sounds like you've forgotten that
