ohhhh very true.... I'll still get down on my knees and beg... Then pay whatever he want for it... Within a reasonable range
think you should just forget this pipe dream as said any resto needs buckets of cash

Not until i ask the owner, not worth letting a car like this die and not know if i could have saved it

Davey: Thanks for agreeing with my hopes hehee  will DEFINITELY get some pictures up if/when i get the beauty! :)

I've heard they can if you ask to become a registered holder of the car because you have to put up adverts in the local paper and call them to ask etc... So i assume so?

Would the dvla give you the details of the current registered owner just like that?

From what I remember they will, if you have a valid reason for asking, write a letter with cheque/postal order for £5 admin fee it used to be.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

'wentalong' all the best with it, hope it works out and the car can be saved

Im sure I read somewhere that when you Submit the forms the dvla write to the registered keeper and only if they reply saying you can have it will they issue the v5 to you, if they get no response then you can't do anything, I may have dreamt this though.

Damn right.... If you had love for the car you'd do it no matter what... Barry's just heartless...

JimR: The way it works is (From my understanding):

- You see the car
- If you feel its abandoned ask around for the owner
- If you can find the owner and its on private land ask the landowner for details of the car/owner (the guy may have done a runner and built up loads of unpaid storage bills on the land)
- If no luck still report it as being off road/tax being out date to the DVLA
- Then ask for a v62 (I think this is the form which lets you apply for becoming the registered keeper)
- Show you have made an effort to find the owner (Put ads in local newspapers i.e:'1000BC Flintstone rocket ship owner: Willing to buy car, if not will become keeper and take car... Contact me... Blah Blah Blah...'
- I think they then give you a V5 which says at the top that it doesn't prove you an owner just a registered keeper, think of it as you babysitting a kid, and as soon as the parents come home/if they come home, they can take the kid away from you and there's nothing you can do...

I was thinking to do the same thing this morning but realised I had no minutes left

This tells me you should have no business trying to restore a Mustang however much you like it. You cannot afford it and it will ruin you.

Dream that dream by all means, but I think you have no chance of completing this project.  :lipsrsealed:

I had no minutes because i used them, didn't run out of credit (Im on a contract, and used them on business calls before i left for work and cant re-add minutes until the contract rolls over again at the end of the month)

Everyone seems to be forgetting, i havent fully inspected the car yet, there could be near to no damage (Trusty pount shop blue sheet may have worked for god knows how many years  ) or it could fall to pieces from rust at the touch of a finger, either way, If I was to get the car, it would be finished, whether it be slowly due to lack of funds or not, either way, money will be spent on it when the cash is there, sometimes I get a flow of cash in one week and others I wont get much to spend on things, it depends, so believe me or not when I say, If I do get the car, To the best quality possible, It will be restored.

Yeah It's true, but tbh even if it is taken and not restored at all, atleast its in a new, dry home, where it awakes the next prince to give it the kiss of life, if not me

And the contract sucks when you need to call someone, but glad im not going £80 over a month anymore   :lipsrsealed:

Mustang rebuilds are a waste of time and money these days, by the time your properly done, you can easily wave goodbye to 20 to 40k where you could buy in a fresh rebuild from the states for under 18k
A car left outside to the elements would most likely be a 6 cylinder notchback, in which case I really wouldn't bother, anything later than a 71 Mach 1 is not worth considering, bit like buying a mk 3 really

Get some pics up! If it says Boss anywhere on it, I'll double what you pay for it
