Hey All,

This is real off forum tbh, let alone off-topic ;) but atleast its car related....

Near me lies an abandoned car, a (what i believe to be) a 65 'Stang convertible (Need to double check with the cars plates).

It's been there for as long as i remember, the first time i saw it ws maybe a year or two ago, on what looks like private land (area is quite fieldy) Tires flat, colour faded, canvas broken (Blue sheet thing placed over the back for some mild protection from rain... although it looks as water tight as tissue paper...) with grass growing up the sides &wheel arches, and that was the first time i saw it, so i imagine it was there a good few years before I saw it to.... Ever since it hasn't moved when I've gone past it (every 4months-ish) and so i do believe it is abandoned/unwanted as there are a umber of cars around it left there to die...

Im going to go the the car in a week or two and ask all the houses around it to see if there are any owners there and if they will sell it, however, Just in case no one around it knows the owner/is the owner, Im wondering what i can do next?

I know i can apply for a V62 and then get a V5 saying im a registered keeper of the car,
But is there any way to become the legal OWNER of the car so the original owner cant turn up one day and ask for it back after i spent ££££'s restoring it?

Cheers Guys :)

Don't take this the wrong way dude but if it's been sat for years exposed to the elements it's probably a bit far gone.

A friend has redone a dodge charger that needed pretty much all panels and it's pushing the 45k mark.

There's a 60's mustang coupe inthe unit I share having bodywork done and it is a huge job - like unbelievably huge work.

Braver than I am.

Will get on the search bar nowww, did do a lot of research on google, but nothing was clear on actually receiving an OWNERS title... Just a registered keepers title, :(

I know it probably will be quite weather damaged but the poor things only sitting there un-loved and un-used, and I'd give anything to restore it... (Have an indescribable love and passion for mustangs for some reason?!) And if it is weathered and I do find the owner, I'll hopefully be able to get it for peanuts.... At least that way I will get it under cover... (My nans Ex-Spray shop/street garage) in her back garden :D the things water tight and was built by my dad and his brother many years ago when they started spraying and fixing cars in her back garden (neighbors eventually got pissed off though ;) ) but is well suited to the job of restoring it....

I just wanted to know if you can be given the owners title by the DVLA if no one claims it? The government get owners title when they tow and crush cars... Don't see why I wouldn't be able to?

I can't offer any advice mate but why not just ring the DVLA or something and ask the experts? They'll be able to tell you what the score is?

I would love to see the progress on this, so if you do get it, update this post so I can follow a project thread :)

I was thinking to do the same thing this morning but realised I had no minutes left -.- will have to try and do it during lunch when I'm home, also thought about a picture/project thread on this last night... Would be a longgggg thread as there will be a lot I want to do to the car let alone what the car needs done ;) however I'll do it anyway ;) I'll post back on here when I visit the car and see if I get it or not :) *fingers crossed!*

Just got in and managed to give the DVLA a call, I asked about it and was told i could be given a V62 then would get a V5 through that making me the registered keeper of the car, but if the owner came along with proof of purchase I'd have absolutely NO fight against it what so ever and he could claim the vehicle back if he wished... The DVLA will not give out any proof of ownership papers etc.

I asked if the owner was deceased would i be able to then claim ownership through that? No, the ownership passes to the next of Kin...

So, the end result is i will be able to trace the car to someone in the family if the DVLA give me the details on the owner (If none of the people around the car don't own it...) and so will then (I believe) need written consent from the next of kin/owner saying they pass ownership to me and from there i believe i will be the owner (Not sure though...)
