Another question....
« on: 04 October 2003, 20:44 »
Does anyone else have this rattling noise which seems to be coming from the front wheel areas?

Everytime i go over even the smallest bumps i get a harsh rattle. The car has been checked but there seems to be no problem.

It lowered on coilovers and is on a stiff setting but ive had this noise from a standard suspension setup.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Is it a loose wheel cap? took me a fair while to track it down to that on mine, I kept thinking it was the exhaust :-[
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

I have a rattle on my car after replacing top mounts and putting konis on, I am thinking maybe the wishbone bushes or the balljoints need replacing, I think they are the list of things to do .

Sometimes the noise on mine sounds like inner cv joint rattle so I am gonna pop them off and grease them up a bit incase the joints have gone a bit dry from doing outer boots in the past.

I would have thought that stiffening up the suspension would be bound to exaggerate other worn running gear components i.e as modulator says: wishbone bushes, lower ball joint.

Its not a hard job as long as your good with the spanners, You need to undo the hubnut with a 36mm socket and breaker bar through the wheel with the centre cap off. Car on ground and handbrake on fully, its tight.

Jack the car up and put it on stands, get someone to sit in the car to apply the brakes and undo the spline sockets as you spin the shaft round. Then I always undo the strut to hub bolts to allow the shaft to be withdrawn from the hub and away from the car.

I was just gonna lube mine up with moly grease and see if it helps, I do remember last time I did the outer joint on the nearside shaft that the inner joint was a bit dry grease wise. The inners are sliding joints and if not greased up well can knock like a swine as the shaft moves in and out.

ive recently been having trouble with loud bangin after i got a set of Eibach ARB's put on

my noise comes under deacceleration, going over bumps or even reversing, mine sounds like the downpipe silencer clunkin on the tunnel

its going to get its rear mount changed next week, everything else has been checked and nobody can source the cause of the noise

its annoyin as hell
