Hello chaps.
This is my way of saving £100 on a posh catch can on my early AGU golf. All i used were a few bolts, jubilee clips and 2m of 19mm hose. it also catches the fumes from the tank.
It follows on from this thread

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=222678.0http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=225699.0these are both great threads. there are some other faq's on the interweb.
what i have basically done here is completely separate the boost and PCV systems. although the can is breathing to air, it will not loose boost. if it does, then its through the rings and its f00ked!
as with other threads, you need to remove the pcv valve under the inlet manifold and block up the pipe attached to the inlet itself. i used a 30mm piece 0f 19mm hose from the block breather outlet to the metal block PCV pipe, and put a bolt and jubilee on the inlet manifold pipe.
picture time!

what i have done here is remove the hockey puck and blocked the TIP with a wine cork and mikalor clamp

this will be replaced when my forge 20mm bung arrived from the bay.

on the other side i took out the carbon canister, prised open the lid, and removed all the crap. i have just pulled out the solenoid and tucked it under the header tank, this has thrown up no fault codes after 100 miles. of course, i blocked off the inlet on the throttle body.
as you can see, i have re used the hockey puck valve. under this is 5cm of 19mm hose, bulked up with tape. this secures the valve in the canister.
the canister also has a handy pipe on the bottom that can be used as a drain plug!
and then....

i just ran 19mm pipe from the metal block breather pipe, round the bulkhead, and in the the newly used carbon catch canister.
as you can see, its looks almost OEM

now, at the moment it is breathing through the top of the canister. i have just made a small hole.
i am going to at a later date tap this and put another pipe in there. this will be fed to the inner wing.
so, what do you think? have a saved you a few £££
