All the stuff about racism in the media winds me up, yes it's wrong to say things to anyone in a derogatory way but why is calling someone "a black so and so" any worse than calling someone a fat b@stard or a white honkey etc etc etc?? It's rediculous.

....That was exactly my point in my earlier post. At least someone understands how ridiculous all this fuss is. :afro:

At this rate, any expression of anger through words is going to be viewed the same as physical assault!

The problem is when people difine racism as something different from any kind of hatred. They see racism as being so bad that it makes every other form of hatred ok. Its all the same. Yeah your not going to get someone arrested for calling an overweight person a fat fcuk but its every bit as serious as calling a black person a black b*stard. Just not in the eyes of the law or the media and most people unfortunately because alot of people are full of hatred. I think racism is at the top of everyones attention because its one of the biggest problems. You have rasicm then religious bigotry and the order goes on. But its all the same despite what anyone says. Its a cancer on society!!

But as Carl Sagan once said,

''The old appeals to racial, sexual, religious chauvanism and to rabid nationalist fervor, are beginning not to work. A new conciousness is developing which see the earth as a single organism and recognises that an organism at war with itself is doomed''.

Thats the mindset i'm in and what everyone needs to be in for this sort of scar on society to dissapear.

My dad had the same thing a few years ago on one of his sites. Called a black fella into his office to sack him for not wearing safety boots, glasses or hat.

The bloke then went into a rant saying he was only sacking him due to his skin colour (in an Ali G style voice, he said it was hilarious). My dad just turned round and said "no I'm just sacking you as you won't do as your told and I can get in trouble for it you prick"

He left the office shortly after with his tail between his legs

Black men have tails?

Now thats a stereotype. Lots cant dance, or jump high either.  :lipsrsealed:

@ Gti_Jamo:

I respect what you are saying in quoting Carl Sagan and I also agree that too many people carry around too much anger too much of the time.

However, peace loving folks have human emotions and it's, in my opinion, healthy to express emotions such as anger if/when appropriate. I fear that your approach may be overly intellectual on this subject.

I feel racism is more a simpletons expression of anger/hate/frustration.

I do not know who GTIJamo is quoting BUT I'm sure it can be summed up with a more concise sentence that would perhaps appeal to a simpletons level of grammar and English. Which is what I mean about how moronic verbal slang and insults are, albeit toward black/ginger/fat/Chinese people...

This is a serious debate on the state of racism in this country and you come out with that.

Disgusting.

....So how do YOU react to someone who has, to use my earlier example, violently knocked into you in the street and shows no sign of apology but quite the contrary?

The example itself isn't important - Just use any example you like which would cause you to feel justifiably angry at that moment.

I doubt I'd relate my chosen 'insult' to anything he is. Instead call him a something more generic, perhaps jobsworth thingy or toss rag. However, I appreciate your comment earlier and do some what agree with it. But this relates back to my previous comment about how racism is more of a simpletons 'insult'. I know people, far cleverererererererer than I am, who can defeat me with a few words that I just don't know the meaning of  :embarassed:...If you get what I'm saying  :lipsrsealed: :undecided:
