16486 code

I don't believe it!!  :angry: just went for a good run in the car, and I notice it starts hesitating while doing about 60-70, so I stop to check with code reader and I find 2 codes 17963, which I know can be to do with the charge pipe, but I have only just recently fitted the 5 piece turbo hose kit and had the charge pipe changed for an AGU one as it is better than my AUM one...anyway I am confused about the 16486 code because I only had a new maf 8 months ago. the wiring seems fine..Could it be anything to do with the newish Venom induction kit I fitted a few weeks ago, could this be causing the maf to have a problem?

This car is doing my bloody head in!!!!

just went out and scanned mine and i had the same code!!!!

did you check ross tech?? i was just about to write a topic but you beat me to it haha

17963/P1555 - Boost Pressure Control: Upper Limit Exceeded

Possible Symptoms
Reduced power output
Limp mode

Possible Causes
Boost Pressure too High
Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected, blocked or leaking
Charger Pressure Control defective VNT (variable nozzle turbo): nozzles stuck

Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) defective

Possible Solutions
Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control Check / Clean mechanism for variable nozzles

Did you have the 18486 code as well?

I have another N75 valve, so I will try that tomorrow, and see if that sorts it. As for the Maf code, my mechanic has said he can get it replaced for me because he got it from TPS and expects it is still under warranty  :smiley:

The maf controls the boost on the agu so there may be nothing wrong with the pipes leaking and over boosting thing.

You should check the n75 isn't stuck open and is bleeding air back into the intake, ie increasing boost.

And the wastegate actuator rod should move if you pull it, also check the pipe from the n75 to the actuator.

Does the maf control the boost on an AUM as well? Mine is an AUM.

I have never checked the actuator rod before! I will have a feel and see if I can pull it or not. that is if I can find it  :laugh:

What mm is the pipe that goes from the N75 to the actuator, as mine has never been changed?

I think I am starting to see why many of you prefer to use (and sometimes mod) the standard air box with a pipercross panel filter!!! I think I am going to stick mine back on and smooth it. As it surely can't just be coincidental after having my Venom induction kit back on for two weeks, that I get the Maf 16486 code.

I have some "Wynn's  Air intake & carburettor cleaner" from Halfords, will this be ok to use to clean the Maf with?

when you say the MAF, do you mean the sensor within it?
I wouldnt use that stuff, you can buy MAF cleaning fluid off ebay though

do you have a picture of your air filter setup? have a good look around the maf and tip for leaks, or any of the lines coming off it that might be drawing in air where they shouldnt.

The lad that made the thread about the 4mo just popped down and this was one of the fault codes that came back after deleting he said the maf was changed not long ago for a bosch one what would be the problem other than that ?

Yes that is right mate, I do. OK, thanks. Don't Halfords do any, or an eltronic cleaner that will do the job?

Thanks mate, I will have a look later this morning after I have been to see the Olympic torch  :smiley:
and I will post up a picture of the set up. Yesterday I spoke to a man from the filtration department at Pipercross, and I asked him if the filter in my venom kit comes pre-oiled. he said they do, but only lightly. Mine seems to be very well oiled, which looks like it has caused the Maf code. The pipercross man said I can take the foam bit out of the venom kit, and wash it and use it without the oil. Like the panel filters they do for the 1.8t engine.

I also have the 17963 code with it, and it held back the power when doing abut 60, Hopefully I can have a good look today, if the rain will hold off
