damaged Venom air filter

I over tightened the hose clip that feeds through the bracket holder, and look what I did  :cry: I have since ordered a replacement part from Pipercross which will be with me monday, but will this cause a boost leak as it is at the moment? Does anyone know because today I fitted a catch can, and although the power is up a bit and is better, it is still not as good as it should be for a stage one remap


Mods: R-Tech custom remap, Beachbuggy K250 Turbo, Forge 007 DV, RAMAIR Jetstream 108 induction filter, silicone piping throughout, R-Tech Supersize TIP, 42 Draft Stealth Catch Can, N249 bypass, Ported Manifold, Toyo Sports FMIC with 2 & 1/2 pipes, Custom made full turbo back exhaust & 2 & 1/2 " downpipe and 200 cell sports cat. BAM injectors, Turbosmart Boost Gauge, BBS CK Wheels, 312mm Brembo front discs and pads, Carbon canister delete and last of all, a liquid cube!

I put the oem air box with a piper cross panel filter back on today, and there is a definite improvement in performance. So the venom filter that I over tightened and broke, did cause a boost leak. It is still not quite a 100% performance yet, but certainly better.

I am not sure if I have the wrong hose clip holder or not that fits on to the bracket, but I can't really tighten up the hose clamp much or else it just bends the silicone pipe and squashes the grey bit, as shown in the picture.

Has anyone else noticed this on the Venom induction kit?

A gap on the air filter side of the Turbo side won't cause a boost leak as it is under vacuume althought it could possibly pull in unfiltered air, it is possible the reason it feels to have more power with the panel filter is because panel filters are known to I've better power gains the. Induction kits

It was very noticeably different in performance after changing though, maybe because the gap where I broke it was sucking in hot air from the engine, which would of probably given heat soak..maybe?

I thought it was all swings and roundabouts with panel filters and induction kits! The reason I wanted the Venom was because of the tests that pipercross did at R-tech. There was a write up done by someone on this forum (| think) that reported an actual 5 bhp gain!

Hmmm possibly, but don't know why it would make that much of a noticeable differnece
Is it open cone in the engine bay? As they are rubbish without a cold air feed, I think you may have tea wrong as having the car mapped with a smooth airbox and panel filter and cold airfeed is know to give the best results and induction kits being best for noice!  :evil:

its the pipercross venom kit, the filter is self contained in the heat shield with a large cold air feed to it.

But I still don't see how it would make a massive noticeable difference  :undecided:
Unless you have a seperate boost leak, and I don't know of it's what you implied but catch cans don't really improve performance  :smiley:

No, I didn't imply the catch can improves performance, but as I had some boost leaks in the pcv pipe work, I did get an improvement...if you see what I mean. But the "broken" venom kit was still on at this point. So, after I replaced the Venom with the air box and panel filter, which did seem to improve performance. I think this was because of the broken Venom was sucking up hot air from the engine through the gap damaged part of it.

Hmmm well if it's still not runnin right could be the actuator allowing the boost to pass through the wastegate before it gets to full boost. What spring is in your dv?
Have yoU got the gorge adjustable actuator?

I only have the standard actuator, and the spring is the right one for a stage one remap, yellow I believe. Since I broke my Venom, I have had a smoke test and it pin pointed the dipstick, and today I am going to do the N249 bypass, as I have the 17608 code now thrown up, so hopefully this should sort it. If not then i am just going to go and bang my head against a wall  :laugh:
