You can't do that. Without the key being programmed, the immob won't let you in and the alarm will go off as soon as you try - that's what the 'chip' 'programmed key' is for, otherwise people would be stealing cars quite easily like in the old days.

Yes you can I've done it

How do you think I do cluster swaps, the keys aren't coded to the cluster when the ignition is switched on for the first time, all they need to do is turn the ignition on to get power to the cluster and then code them in to the cluster and the CCM.

Also the key "not being coded" has nothing to do with the alarm, all that is in the key is an immobiliser chip this doesn't have any effect on the alarm only the immobiliser

:afro: exactly and as long as you have or can get the SKC it can be coded with vagcom :afro:

You will need to get a new key from VW or some auto locksmiths can cut one by dismanteling the lock barrel, but as long as you can get the SKC you don't need to go to the dealers to get the key programmed anyone can do it with vagcom :afro:

Only if the ignition is switched on.

Which you can do without a key if you take the steering wheel surround off and remove the ignition switch from the barrell  :nerd: or use the new key blank you get cut at an auto locksmiths to power the car in, it doesn't matter about the immobiliser light being on.

how do you get in the car to do this?

If you can't get in then it is auto locksmith time or get a key from the V5 at VW then code it yourself

neil is right, i have to code freshly cut keys quite often. the immobiliser doesn't stop you turning the key, it'll even let you start the car briefly.

It does, the alarm will go off when a non coded key goes in and turns the barrel. I've coded keys also.

the alarm will go off if it's been armed with the fob and the door was unlocked using the key in the barrel, but that wont stop you coding anything. Every one i've done the alarm stops as soon as the key is turned in the ignition barrel

your fooked

thats why i aint got a de lock kit as every now and then my locks wont open so i need to put the key into the lock turn it and its fine again i often wondered how i would manage if i did have a delock kit as this process of getting the locks to unlock doesnt work if you try it in the boot lock  :undecided:

Even if the alarm is armed on the fob, it disarms even if you use the key in the barrel unless the door electronics have a fault and haven't detected the unlocked state.
