hi all my dopey wife has lost the one and only key for are golf mk4 gti any ideas on how much it is to replace and reprograme the key manythanks

from the dealers.....£180 i got quoted

Go to a scrappy get the same key and get someone to program it up for you where abouts are you if your in london or near southampton then r44ms?? is your man !

Agree with 2nd hand key an reprogram. Dont you have the key code in the booklet for the car?

hi there i got a new one done by timpsons yeah thats right, only selected shops do it but if you look them up on the internet they will advise which ones do it to see if one isnear to you, cost was £135.00

If you've lost the ONLY key, you're in for a big big bill, as some how, someone needs to get inside the car, then get the electronics out, take the chip out, put that in a programmer, get your code, get keys, new ignition barrel and locks.

Won't see much change from a grand.

Can the dealer not get a key from the VIN number? Yes it will be expensive (generally around £250 including coding for other makes i have owned) but a shed load cheaper than £1,000.

I know. On a Vx you can get a cut key supplied and coded (by Vx) if there are no other keys. I think the key arrives at the dealers already cut - they get in to the car with it and can code the key from there... He would just need the AA to get his car to the dealers.

Or - what am I missing?
