LED puddle lights
« on: 18 June 2012, 23:26 »
2 days after getting the car, I had a good feeling about getting the mirror glass out, so I pulled it... and it cracked

I replaced it, £40 from TPS. I didn't have any friggin LED's to put in it then, so had to replace it without even changing the bulb.

I have LED's now

I am feeling slightly optimistic. So any tips? Or should I just leave the bulbs alone and save myself a small fortune?

With the look you've had recently I'd probably leave it alone for while mate.

I think there is a post on here regarding changing them. Now you have the LED's you won't be able to stop yourself

Don't make the mistake like me of coming in from the side and trying to lever it out.

The passenger side glass seem's to be the trickier one to remover for some reason also.

I did this too recently. There's a thread on here somewhere I posted about it. Anyway, I got the drivers glass out really easily, I even took it out and refitted again twice (don't ask) and no problems.
So I tackled the passenger side with confidence and cracked it on first attempt! For whatever reason the passenger side is harder to remove in one piece, I don't know why... maybe its just coincidence.
The LED puddles do look good though, so it was worth it... I think!

True, with my luck I might leave it for a bit. No doubt I'd break both of them, replace 'em and some b@stard would drive past and knock one off or something!

Or the bulb would go and I'd have to do it all over again

I did try and convince VW to do it but they weren't having any of it

Nevertheless, I'm spending enough today without 2 new mirrors. Plus the one I broke was the drivers side it wasn't even the passengers so I've got no hope!!!!!  :embarassed:

Complete units are available now instead of just changing the bulbs.

Expensive though, compared to just buying LED's for a few £ off eBay and I can't really see any benefits, as you still have to remove the mirror glass etc. Their fitting service in London might be useful for some, as if they break the glass, they'll have to replace it
