Golf 'Match' Delivery/Build Date
« on: 02 June 2012, 21:25 »
Well......I put my deposit down on my first new Golf the other day.

It's a 1.4 VW Golf 'Match' TSI 3dr in solid black & the dealer said I should be getting it in around 12-13 weeks as it's a factory order.

But I'm not entirely sure what this means, does it mean that's how long it takes to build the car & deliver to the dealer?  :embarassed:

What it the demand like for the 'Match' spec at present, I've never had to wait on a car like this before so it's all new to me!

Thanks for any responses.

Thanks mate for your helpful reply.

Yeah the dealer quoted me 12-13 weeks which is about 3-4 months but he also said that it is possible cars of certain specs are stored at ports too. So is it uncommon to source one from from a port providing it meets the exact spec that the customer is after?

It was only last week I ordered it.

I went for the 1.4 (122ps) TSI 'Match' spec in manual transmission.

Phew - that's good to hear that you reckon my wait won't be too long!

How long should I wait do you think before I chase him for an update? I suppose no news is good news & all that?

Give it a couple of weeks then it should be locked into a build week , drive them mad keep them on there toes if you need to , I do all the time. Its also good to develope a relationship with your local dealer that way you get looked after

I'm not sure if it's because I am buying brand new that they are having to 'factory order' but it's not like I requested any other toys to it.....I've kept the spec totally standard....still it's nice to know it's going to be that fresh the car!!

Well he said he would keep me updated, but to be honest I am getting impatient (in an excited way)..........I just want my new car....now!!!

A factory order is brand new. As far as I know they don't just churn them out willy nilly hoping punters will buy them. Yeah I suppose they will make a few that haven't been ordered that will go to garages but the fact you want a bog standard one still means it has options ie paint, manual and doors so they have to make it as it is probably slightly unique as most folk go with at least one extra.

I suppose the reason they don't have cars just lying around already built is because of the hundreds of combinations you can get, colours for a start then the manual / dsg boxes, then all the other countless extras, lights, stereo, wheels, interior, cruise, camera, parking, winter, luxury, sunroof, 3 / 5 doors and so it goes on.

The car itself actually only takes around 2 hours to be assembled. Its the length of time it takes to actually get on the production line and then shipped over that slows things down.

There is a guide here that is worth a read http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=209383.0

Also search the forum as there is literally every question you could think of been previously asked but the guys on here are really friendly and will try and help you out. Welcome aboard.
