I'm not sure if it's because I am buying brand new that they are having to 'factory order' but it's not like I requested any other toys to it.....I've kept the spec totally standard....still it's nice to know it's going to be that fresh the car!!

Well he said he would keep me updated, but to be honest I am getting impatient (in an excited way)..........I just want my new car....now!!!

Blimey! Getting impatient after a week!? Take a look at some of the early posts in this section, some waited up to 7 months! It'll be worth the wait mate.

Welcome to the forum. It was an 8 month wait for me  but yes, it was worth the wait and waiting times seem to have improved significantly since then (ordered Nov 2010, took delivery July 2011).

When I was waiting for mine, delays were being caused by dealers taking orders from customers for specific models when they'd already used up the allocation VW had given them for those models. Also, high demand and low availability of certain options were causing delays.

3-4 months is fairly typical of the waiting time you'll be quoted by most VW dealers for a factory order. Once your order has been accepted by the factory and when you've been given a confirmed build week, the build week may be brought forward as your order is for a standard spec car. My build date was moved forward a couple of weeks, so I 'only' had to wait 8 months instead of 8.5(!).

It's probably the fact you have chosen solid black they are having to factory order it, there more than likely is a metallic black car that fits the bill out there. In fact I know because I am in work now and there are 2 in uk port.......and 6 in port of exit so in ended in Germany!

So now the question is, How badly do you want the car? and can you live without the solid black paint...if you can live without, PHONE YOUR DEALER!!!

If he had any sense he would of advised not to buy solid black because it's not very desirable at all in solid form but of course I can appreciate its £495.

That's good to know mate. But to be honest my dealer has npt given me a confirmed build date yet, all I know is that I am getting a factory order or second option a car that is at a port that fits my spec if they have one.

But the fact you want a bog standard one still means it has options ie paint, manual and doors so they have to make it as it is probably slightly unique as most folk go with at least one extra.

I don't understand why when I have ordered a 'standard' spec car with the paint that is 'free' i.e Solid as opposed to metallic or Pearlescent that it is slowing things down??

I could understand it if it was say a GTD that yoy wanted all the bells & whistles on with a fancy paint colour & type, but it is just standard!!  :undecided:  :embarassed:

Blimey! Getting impatient after a week!? Take a look at some of the early posts in this section, some waited up to 7 months! It'll be worth the wait mate.

Yep, I am getting impatient after 1 week! It's the waiting & not knowing that is frustrating me....but I suppose no news is good news right?

Welcome

I've had a few good looks at Youtube videos - some are very impressively shot.  I never get bored of the MK6 though!

So are you saying that metallic is easier to obtain due to popularity?  Is the 2 that are in UK ports currently the 3dr 1.4 TSI 'Match' spec?

What does 6 in port of exit mean?

Well he did actually say I'd be better going for the metallic (typical sales trick) so he can make £400 odd more out of me!

Black is black though......I would have prefered the pearlescent paint but it is expensive enough & since solid black was 'free' I opted for that.

The cars that are available are 5 door golf match Tsi. Another reason it will be a factory order is you want a 3 door not many dealers order 3 door golfs for stock unless it's a gti/gtd/r and even then it's rare.

Your dealer will be very lucky to find a 3 door car so if you want a 3 door in solid vs a 5 door in deep black I guess the difference is going to be at least a £1000 but beware of resale if you are planning to keep it for life then I guess it doesn't matter.

He didn't make it sound like it was a problem when I ordered it from him, not did he even mention that they were rare.  If it's a problem ordering a 3dr then why offer it in 3dr?

I'm planning on keeping the MK6 for a long time so I'm not too fussed by the solid paint.
