Lee is not saying there is a problem in ordering a 3 door, it's just that the vast majority of cars built for stock will be 5 doors as they are far more popular. The same goes for the colour.

I think the salesman was quite right to advise you to have mettalic black. It looks so much better and is far easier to maintain. It's no skin off his nose, as out of the extra you will pay for it as an option, the dealership will make about £40.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I know it's a wee while yet but when you do get the car make sure you slap some protection on it, a good wax/sealant shud do the trick...

The reason they offer a 3 door is for people like you who want one. However the reason you are going to have wait is you are ordering quite an unpopular combination so unlikely to be one that has already been built anywhere in the uk or coming from factory.

Just sit tight and wait it if something pops up on sli I will let you know : )

That's exactly what I'm going to do to it when I get it! I bought some microfibres today from Tesco that will go nicely with my Autoglym HD wax & Super Resin Polish.

That's what makes it more 'exclusive' to me I suppose, the fact that it's an unpopular combination.

I'm sitting tightly waiting for it, but seriously getting tetchy!

That would be good if you could keep us updated if anything comes up on sli?? Top man!

But the fact you want a bog standard one still means it has options ie paint, manual and doors so they have to make it as it is probably slightly unique as most folk go with at least one extra.

I don't understand why when I have ordered a 'standard' spec car with the paint that is 'free' i.e Solid as opposed to metallic or Pearlescent that it is slowing things down??

I could understand it if it was say a GTD that yoy wanted all the bells & whistles on with a fancy paint colour & type, but it is just standard!!  :undecided:  :embarassed:

I think you have just answered your own question

It would be different if they had base cars sitting about already made up and then they added folks extras to them to make them what folk had factory ordered.  That way your base car would already be made and it would just be a case of transporting it over. However every car is made from scratch so hence why you have to wait.

Update:

Just had a call from the dealer.

The car is on build week 27 & he said that in customer language  that means it will be built in the first week of July!

This is taking much less time than I thought it would - chuffed to bits!

I only had to wait about 9 weeks as far as I remember, and that was right back at the beginning.  I had a holiday booked anyway, a car-free cruise, and the car was waiting for me when I got back.

Funny things happen.  When I got my previous car in 1999, a Peugeot 306 GTi-6, I was quoted several months build time, but then two or three weeks later the dealer rang and said your car will be here the day after tomorrow!  I had to call Eurostar and change my booking on the chunnel train from the smaller Fiesta XR2 to the Peugeot, as I'd never imagined the Peugeot would be delivered before a planned trip to Holland.

The car which showed up was exactly my specification, with one exception.  It had the boot-loading six-disc CD autochanger fitted, which I had decided against adding to my spec.  I suspect someone cancelled the car, and when they looked around for a buyer, found my order sitting there almost matching it, and decided just the throw in the CD player for free.

My ED30 was flat black from choice as two of my previous Golfs (MK2 and MK4) were met black so wanted a change. Flat Black looks really really good when clean, however does need to be looked after but it sounds like you are prepared. The problem I found with flat black on the MK5 is that as it did not have a clear lacquer coat the paint chipped more easily. I needed to have my bonnet repainted before I moved it on. Not sure about the MK6 as my Candy White MK6 had a lacquer coat and didn't chip.

Well......I put my deposit down on my first new Golf the other day.

It's a 1.4 VW Golf 'Match' TSI 3dr in solid black & the dealer said I should be getting it in around 12-13 weeks as it's a factory order.

But I'm not entirely sure what this means, does it mean that's how long it takes to build the car & deliver to the dealer?  :embarassed:

What it the demand like for the 'Match' spec at present, I've never had to wait on a car like this before so it's all new to me!

Thanks for any responses.

Last summer I had a holiday in Austria and hired a car which turned out to be the Golf Match 1.4 TSI.
The cabin had a lot less tier roar probably to do with the Match having smaller wheels which made the car feel very refined. The TSI engine is nippy and sips fuel at a slow pace. Noticed huge difference to my GTI. I had a mark 2 Audi A3 a while back the Golf Match is way, way better than the A3 in so many areas.
