The chip in the key and the transponder box have to match and and they also have to be coded to the ECU.

So if you just swap the ECU then the car won't run but you can code your exsisting transponder and key to the new ECU with VAG-com

If you have the whole car then its easier to swap the whole lot.....

near the steering column, if you was to remove the stereo and air vents, you can see it.

Yh it's a small black box with two wires going into it, one of the wires goes to the ring on the ignition barrel

I've got a question related to this subject. I've got a 8v gti with heated seats and climatronic. I've been considering doing a 16v swap from a donor car. My only issue is will I be able to make the heated seats and climate control work? Or is it a question of modifying the 16v loom to accommodate these? :smiley:

You shouldn't have to touch them parts of the looms just the engine side
