I loved my old 16v don't get me wrong but I also loved revving the tits off it which my wallet didn't love.
Converting 1.6 to 16v is the same work as a 1.6 to 8v. You still have to change engine, gearbox and wiring. The only difference is the engine itself, which all fits up the same. Yes the 16v engine will be a bit more but it won't be much.Oh and a 16v will easily do 40mpg if you drive reasonably easy. I've had 42 out of mine before.

Firstly, I know this was asked about a week ago and secondly, I know it would be easier to just buy a gti, that's not what I'm asking, but.What parts from an 8v gti would I need to convert my 1.6 to a 2ltr 8v?Here's the list that bellend posted- Engine, gearbox and all parts associated such as starter, alternator, clutch. (anything else)- Slam panel and radiator- ECU- Engine Loom- Clocks, stalks and associated looms- Immob box and loom- Fuel pumpIs there anything he missed?I'm gunna uprate the brakes using 8v calipers and g60 discs.I'm looking into doing this as I've got my 1.6 pritty much how I want it, apart from lacking in power, and as its a cl it dosnt have plastic arches and sills and the rust that comes with it. I'd love a 1.8t or vr6, but Havnt got the funds to do a 1.8t or run a vr6 Cheers josh
