List of parts for a gti conversion

Firstly, I know this was asked about a week ago and secondly, I know it would be easier to just buy a gti, that's not what I'm asking, but.

What parts from an 8v gti would I need to convert my 1.6 to a 2ltr 8v?

Here's the list that bellend posted

- Engine, gearbox and all parts associated such as starter, alternator, clutch. (anything else)
- Slam panel and radiator
- ECU
- Engine Loom
- Clocks, stalks and associated looms
- Immob box and loom
- Fuel pump

Is there anything he missed?

I'm gunna uprate the brakes using 8v calipers and g60 discs.

I'm looking into doing this as I've got my 1.6 pritty much how I want it, apart from lacking in power, and as its a cl it dosnt have plastic arches and sills and the rust that comes with it. I'd love a 1.8t or vr6, but Havnt got the funds to do a 1.8t or run a vr6

If you're going to upgrade then go for a 16v minimum, because honestly, the 8v is not really worth all the effort.

Yh I see what your saying, but think that I could do this conversion myself at home with out too much trouble, and I know that the 8v might not have lots of power but it's still neally twice as much as the 1.6,

how much is a 2.0 8v gonna cost? cant be much more for a 16v/vr6/1.8t

its not the engines themselves that cost the money but everything else that you need as well

Well looked into a 1.8t and it soons adds up I.e. doner 16v, and then the 1.8t engine.

Ive owned a 16v and I liked the power.

Also unless I can find a bargain engine, I rekon I could pick up a rotted out 8v for that same/less then a 1.8t lump.

And I know that the 8v 'isn't fast' but it's gotta be quicker then the 1.6.

I disagree, as the price of fuel/insurance creeps up and 16v's become rarer and more expensive the 8v makes more sense than ever, its a tough reliable motor that is a better drive than the much quoted figures and numbers suggest and your more likely to come across a rotten but mechanically sound 8v for peanuts.

well I did sell my old 8v engine for £8 

not sure if you need things like engine brackets but I'd imagine the 1.6 ones are different, also new mounts? is the gear change mechanism the same?

If your going to all the hassle then fit a 16v, 8v is ok but 16v makes the most sense in the long run.

I loved my old 16v don't get me wrong but I also loved revving the tits off it which my wallet didn't love.

Yh pritty sure the gear change is the same, I just put a Mk3 8v gti gbox ina mk2 Jetta 1.8 non gti and that's got the same rod change as my 1.6.  I think all the engine mounts are the same but I'm sure someone will correct me if not.

£8?! Bargain, can't see me getting a valver or turbo for under £10

I'm afraid I'm going have to agree with several of the other comments made, go with a 16v engine minimum as it wont be long before you'll be wanting to rip it out again. Admittedly the 8v would be the cheapest and easiest option but not by a lot to be fair. Donor vehicles cost sod all these days.
