I had my complete abs system off the car, and in bits to clean and paint, Refitted and bled the brakes using the usual method and worked great, no codes or abs light and no vagcom needed. Only think you need it if you have changed the pump from another car.

Sounds good although my problem may just be that i'm looking to replace my pump with another second hand unit to see if the pump is infact the problem. I am thinking now though if thats the case with the pump then surely it would be with the ecu ? I can't find a definative answer anywhere  i don't mind bleeding brakes etc but i'm worried i'm going to stuff this up if i swap the pumps over and it won't bleed or something
