VWR springs used to be KW (or even AP), it's hard to keep up with them in terms of who makes there stuff at the moment, if i was doing just springs i reckon eibrach pros, i put a set on the rocco to sell it and they were superb in terms of ride quality

So to summarise.....

H&R - the back sits a little too high, but they perform well.
VWR - Are believed to be Eibach and perform well.
eibach - perform well.

Will see which ones I can get the best deal on as it sounds as its going to make very little difference on the drive to Tesco

The problem is then its not really a tried and tested set up.

Who's aren't?
VW Racings?

I would trust a kit designed for UK roads over a generic lowering kit designed for billiard table smooth Autobahns anyday.
Every VW Racing product I've ever tried has worked faultlessly and after speaking to the lads there, the depth of knowledge is way over and above what you get at your average suspension seller.

Having changed springs/dampers or both to alternate springs/dampers or decent coilovers on most cars I've owned in the last 15 years...I'd say the VWR springs/ACC dampers is up there with the best.

Read my post again

I said VWR springs mated to uprated bilstein or koni etc dampers werent a tested/developed set which they aren't.

Like I said not many suspension kits are actually tested properly for each application which is what makes me only consider the b12 kit as its developed specifically for the application.

I also said in another thread if I wereto go for springs only it would be VWR springs as I wouldn't want to go more that 25mm on standard dampers but if I'm going to the trouble of doing it I'm going B12 and having done with it.

My apologies...I did pick it up wrong.

I will add this though: the best aftermarket dampers I ever used on a road car were Bilstein B8s...the worst 'matched' kit I ever tried was a Bilstein spring/damper kit for an Ibiza Cupra Sport - the springs were awful...too stiff for the sports dampers. I ended up binning them and fitting different springs.

I've also tried H&R springs (excellent) on an S3 but H&Rs coilover kit on the same car was tragic...springs too stiff for the bump/rebound damping.
In my view, springs too stiff and dampers too weak on both bump and rebound.

Personally, I'm a believer in buying dampers from damper specialists, and springs from spring specialists.

If I were replacing both springs/dampers I'd have H&R springs and Bilstein dampers top of my list.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

It seems the B12 kit you buy for a specific car has different damper settings than the off the shelf B8 dampers so they work even better with the springs they come with

They have changed their 2012 range and now have a pro kit for the GTI which they didn't before with Taylored damping different to the generic VAG B8 damper.

If I could find some decent info or reviews on the h&r cup kit I would consider that as for £500 it's good value as us the KW 20mm kit but again I can't find any info on this kit or anyone who has fitted it.

Like you said I've had 'matched' suspension kits on cars which have been crap as they just manufacturers best guesstimates and not really road tested. I'm sure the h&r cup kit would be good but for the sake of £200 extra I think the bilsteins are the best bet.

RRP on the Cup kits for the MK6 GTI is £593.40

Best I can do on a supply only basis would be around the £535 mark delivered. Items that we supply and fit we can do much better deals on. Less postage costs and extra discounts on the labour that way :afro:
