Enquiry:                      Hi,

I have just purchased a crosser bike (125cc motorbike), these bikes have
no MOT or Registration and are used offroad/private land. The person I
have bought the bike lives in Eltham and my address is Welling (3miles
apart - 40min walk).

I have drained all fuel and oil off the bike and it has no MOT,
insurance or registration (as it is for private use) since theres only
3miles of traveling distance I was wondering whether legally I would be
allowed to push the bike on the pavement? There is no means to turn on
the bike or get it started, so in theory it is no different than a pram,
however I want to be certain whether this is legal or not to do so
rather than do it freely and find myself breaking a law on some ground
and either be issued with a fine, ending up in a court or having the
vehicle impounded.

Hope you can help me clarify whether this can be done lawfully or not.

Kind regards

Alex

Thank you for your recent email enquiry.

Yes it is ok for you to push your bike on the pavement providing you
don't start it or ride it. However as you say you have drained it of
fluids and it will not start.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact
me

I will be pushing it home this weekend! :afro:

Chances are if you hadn't enquired most cops would not have bothered with the paperwork about it unless you got in their face if you questioned their motives...

Depends on the officer from my experience with working with them. If you got a jobsworth then they will find a flaw even with no abuse, being sensible, polite and honest - kent police come to mind here

Peace of mind definitely, I weren't planning to pick up till this weekend anyway from when I posted the question due to working hours. But it saves me a lot of hassle, the PC was kind enough to give me all he's details as well when he responded to the question.

I'm glad I can do this safely as I really didn't want to end up at work after this fiasco, ringing work saying "yeah I'm at work, just at a different court this time"

Bad news, just got a text 30min ago, called the lady, bikes been stolen and reported. Chain around it was broken, all the body parts torn off and thrown on the floor but rest of it was taken even though it was drained and tires deflated.

It's on a main road and in daylight that this occurred, the police said they would check CCTV as the shops across the road have it, but whether they will get anywhere is another question.

Annoyed but its out of my control
