Hi again

Well I thought I'd check with vw to see if hey had the gearbox inspection plug and they ordered me one in (£7) which I collected today.  I attempted to fit it, but I gave up after 5 mins as it's too tight.  This could be due to corrosion of the inspection hole threads, I'm not sure but either way not a big deal.

I last drove the car from work on Wednesday and all was fine.  Today it would not start.  There seems to be battery power (lights etc work) but no turnover at all.  There is a humming noise (fuel pump?) and 3 dash lights come on when I turn the key, but nothing else?

Any suggestions?  Surely I couldn't have buggered anything up trying t screw the plug in?

Thanks in advance

P

i believe people have been dropping subtle hints that the metal water pipe that is pictured has seen better days, it also appears peoples opinion on this is, replace the water pipe, dont waste £7 on a bung in the gearbox that isnt actually that important.

Could be wrong though

Dead right Dolly. You can be sure that if you drop something that will fit in that hole. It will disappear down it.
As for not being able to screw it in. I had the same problem. I ran a junior hacksaw around the threads and wire brushed them out afterwards. I managed to get a couple of threads in the hole then.
So if you've bought it, I'd make the effort to fit it.

I got the subtle hints; a mechanic has looked at it and thinks it just surface corrosion.  I just wanted to clarify whether or not it was a sarcastic dig I was getting when what I really was after was some advice about how to start my car.
