You cannot do it right with that tubing - there is no single main hoop.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Hi Jon, think you will be able to use a few parts off that, but you really want the main hoopS to be single bars.

Going to be a lot stronger mate :afro:

Jamie, won a OMP bolt in one off eBay for £221 mate, it's gone a long way since then though

doh.... gutted.. lol
i should be a dab hand at making one if i follow the rules..
being a plumber i`m  used to bending pipes and ive welded before.. its just a case of hiring the tools.
i did have a mig welder too but sold it years ago... should be able to hire one or get a favour done to weld the bits together though without any problems.
loving the progress dave!... got my mot tomorrow, wish me luck...

Ok cheers, understand what you mean now I just thought you could use any bars as long as they were supported. Will now get full lengths and make the main loops properly and separatly and use the rest for filler.  Cheers

Cheers mate, I look forward to reading your success story tomorrow :afro:

Back where it belongs, on the road, although you will have to cut more of the grass in your garden which will not be unobstucted by the car

Keep your eyes out on eBay mate, bending the tube to a spec I think we be a nightmare.

Would be easier for you if you could pick up an already shaped one second hand and adapt to your needs. Although even mine has been a bit of a ball ache, having the main 2 hoops being pre-formed cuts down on a lot of avoidable aggravation!

The piece of string that represents the build, well, from one end to the other is getting shorter, there's just no particular measurement yet

Dave's been at .:WR for four days on the bounce now, working on the Golf.  There is significant progress.... OK, so maybe not as significant as we might like, but it's definitely progress and it's all goodness.

This includes Dave doing significant welding on the cage.

Really do need to find the seat mounting brackets and plates now!

Crazy Old night but a very significant outcome.

The Quaife diff is in and the gearbox is back together.

Not many pictures as the focus was more on getting it in there rather than playing photographer.

Crown wheel bolted to diff with the proper ARP bolts, diff preloaded by 0.3mm.

All went back together rather swimmingly after we had decided on shim size.

Heated the new bearings on and they slipped on perfectly with no need to press them, helped by an official Volkswagen electric hob

Also the crown wheel was heated up on it to persuade it onto the diff.

Now back together, new bolts, new speed gear, new bearings, new diff seals, just need new O rings And some oil now.

All genuine bits, including the casing sealant , complete peace of mind that it's going to be good for another 90k and beyond, which is all the box has actually covered.

Didn't get to paint the cars floor which has now had all the underseal scraped/wire wheeled off, but it has had a generous lashing of brake fluid to make sure it's ready for the first coat.
