Rear cage landings drilled up.
Door bars pondered over.
Bucket seat sat in.
New steering wheel held.
Exhaust delivered.

Forming the rear strut brace:

Look at his happy little face in there:

Rear strut brace spreader plates made and welded onto turrets nicely tonight.

Just need to cut CDS to length and profile ends and we will have substantial/correct bar to mount harnesses on.

Also rear turrets were seam welded to strengthen things up abit.

One side:

t'other side:

I stopped seam welding after the first turret, as the seams need cleaning really aggressively, as there's still paint in there after they've been scurfed up and it flares up and contaminates the weld - really not happy with the finish.  The steel of the arches under the turrets is also bloody thin, too.  Not a happy welding combination.

Never bothered with the mk4 but decided to make one for this.

Good to look back to the beginning every now and then to regain motivation in times of need

Tonight, disassembled the door bars to cut and re-weld at the right length to suit me. Bit of a battle between access to the car vs room with seat but think we've got it, hampered by the fact the brackets that connect set subframe to the bars that attach them to car are NOWHERE TO BE BLOODY SEEN!

Sure they will be in the last place we look DH, just we haven't found that 'last place' yet

Rear strut brace / harness mounting bar has been profiled, fitted and welded in.

Old news, sourced a plug for the mk4 pump with enough wiring to reach where it needs to go and also some mk4 fuel lines, these have 90degree elbows on so they fit under the panel which reveals pump, no butchering needed.

Cage is NEARLY close to being painted and finished, this I can assure you, can't come soon enough
