The problem with any form of 'snooping' is how the authorities choose to use it.
Number plate recognition technology was supposed to be used to fight crime, how else is it used?

You do understand that not any tom dick and harry has access to this dont you? You realise its a specialist unit?

Where is ANPR used in a way that invades your privacy? It helps cops to check if cars have tax or insurance? whys that an issue?

I can't believe you guys think this is about snooping on Joe Publics emails and texts.. All this does is allow the relevant parties instant access to information that could stop an incident like 7/7 9/11 a Paedo ring etc...

9/11..not this old chest nut again please. So much evil perpatrated in the name of defending freedom and protecting jo-public. Bored you and others have been sent into war based on lies, lies and more lies.

How will it be when the truth finally surfaces and families of those who have died in the armed forces realised they lost their loved ones for an unjust cause.

Automated thoughtless fines without any human input. Faceless systems. I'd say that was about the size of it. A copper at the side of the road can make a judgement if I have forgot to tax or if there is something more suss. Suppose you think speed cameras are not revenue generators?

And as for buzz cut. I wouldn't pretend to know. Unless you use a web cam and that data gets lost/hacked by the likes of Anonnymous in the years to come. Not like Sony Scotland Yard and others have been breached is it?

And I'm with R32UK...why should I leave. It's MY country and the politicians are responsible to the public. It's called democracy
- noun, plural-cies
1. government in which the people hold supreme power, usu. through their elected representatives
2. state having such government

That means they represent us not themselves and the corporations they have links/investments in.

Oooh, I like this:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/National-cc-all-your-e-mails-to-Theresa-May-Day/155277607840980

I have to say, whining that APNR

Automated thoughtless fines without any human input. Faceless systems.

They're covering off something that's not a grey area, it's binary - either you have tax, insurance and MOT or you don't.

The days of a 'friendly copper' are long gone and why should you expect them?  Even if you've 'forgotten' your tax/MOT/insurance you're just as in the wrong as the next person who's also 'forgotten' about them an you're passing as many people with a potentially dangerous vehicle, which is uninsured and not taxed as 'the bad guy'.  There is no 'bad guy', numpties.  In the main, here are just people, doing things.

I have no problem with APNR and to be honest I have little problem with speed cameras.  If you aren't breaking the law you have nothing to worry about.... unless you think it's unreasonable to adhere to speed limits and to tax, insure and MOT your car?

Those who are quaking in their boots at the prospect of The Government having these all-seeing eyes should take a look at Government systems and realise what a joke that prospect is.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

This technology is not just used by the police for checking tax and insurance. It's used for speed cameras too.
Also it is used in private car parks by private companies, to log when you arrive and leave, then hound you with a fine if you over stay.
You did know that didn't you?
The private company is sold the driver's details by the authorities. Now i would say that is an abuse of power.
The point i am making Mr.Welsh Lad is we are always told that if you have nothing to hide then we have nothing to worry about, but technology or new laws can and are used to raise revenue from the general public, rather than chasing criminals.
That is my opinion, you are entitled to yours.

Chasing criminals? or abuse of power?

Discuss.
