Yeah just bung it in if your topping up.

Just make sure you get correct oil when your changing it with a filter.

people use ASDA value oil for oil changes... topping up imo wont make a differance. Esp on an older higher milage engine, if it was turbo'd or diesel id of said something else

Lets be honest, if it's just low on the dipstick IIRC it's about half a litre.

If you are planning on doing a full change soon, it's far better then having it low.

However, both should be 10w-40 so it is the correct grade, always best to have the same make oil but the long and short of it is it will be fine.

Just think about servicing it with a new filter (cheap enough with the forum ECP discount.) soon. :)

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

How is it better than driving 5 mile to the nearest shop and getting THE CORRECT OIL!!! for his car? Jesus.. If hes driven it for this long with it low, another 5 miles aint going to be any worse than throwing the wrong grade oil in.

The OP doesn't even say what grade oil the car needs, and what grade he has got.
VW oil is fine to use in a Renault, if the grade is correct.
