My mate rocked up in this today:

That's the full spec...carbon bonnet, carbon buckets, 6 point harnesses, roll cage, plastic rear windows, no stereo/speakers and £3500 worth of Titanium exhaust.
Mental.

It re-defines what a FWD hatch can do round corners.

Lol, good joke

Do I detect a hint of badge snobbery?

I know one thing...it's better built than I expected...and a GTI wouldn't see which way it went on a road with corners.
It's insane...

No not at all just thought I would see what the reaction was

French hot hatches are legendary on the twisties its just the other 90% of the time you just wish you were in something else, like the legend which is the GTI.

I agree this would see off a GTI on the bends but this really only matters on a track. If you are going to drive that much faster than a GTI can go on the road then you are insane

It's far better screwed together than I expected, I'll give it that.
Too hardcore for me...but as a drivers car, it must be epic.

Why did you buy a GTI not an S?
Surely the purpose of a hot hatch (if that's what a GTI is) is to entertain and allow you to go down a road faster than in an S?
So why does that only become relevant on the track?

That R26R finds grip where a GTI has long since given up, and the way the chassis works is amazing...it feels so light on it's springs (probably because it is).

Still too hardcore for me though. But I admire a company bonkers enough to build somethi ng like that.

As a daily driver...me too.

It's just a shame that VW think a few badges and a modest power increase is enough to make something special...where is their sense of adventure?
They seem to have forgotten how to make niche cars since the Lupo GTI.
