Got to agree with the London bit ^^^ you're not going to notice the extra 25 horses cruising Park Lane or stuck on the M25.
I had a bit of a similar dilemma last year when changing my 09 plate GTI. I wanted a car with xenons and the 35 was launched around the same time. I went for the normal GTI with hardly a thought for the 35. I much prefer the newer engine and don't like the front bumper on the 35.
TFSI engine wins hands down if you use high revs a lot.
TSI wins on all other counts.
You may be able to map the 35 to 300 bhp but the torque figures will be fairly similar to an EA888 that has been mapped. Both will struggle to get full bore acceleration down to the tarmac even with wider tyres (been there done that).
If you want 300 bhp get an R.
I like the seat belts on the 35 but that's about the only thing I'd take over a normal GTI with similar spec. But at the end of the day it all depends on the deal on offer.
Oh, and I know a few people that have remapped late model EA888 engines with no trouble with locked ECUs.
